Why Refinish? Because now It is a permanent fix!
It's true, in the early days of refinishing it was a great thing for apartments and rental properties. It was a temporary solution that had to be redone every 6 months to a year. I know this to be true because I have been in business since 1992 and serviced in those days: Lincoln Property Group, WestDale Management, Holiday Inn and the best of the management groups was Simpson Properties.
No More Painting
Gone are the days of epoxy paint, waiting (3) days to use the batub, tile or shower and peeling. The reason is because I use an etching stone that puts microscopic scratches into the old surface. Next is the use of a crosslink molecular bonding agent that melts the synthetic porcelain coat into the old surface. In other words the New surface is integrated into the old. Not simply painted or brushed on top of the old surface.
Failure is Not an Option
Since the old days bathtub painting was labeled as bathtub refinishing, bathtub resurfacing, bathtub reglazing and it all involved the same temporary process of cleaning the area as great as possible, Using a very dangerous acid called hydroflouric acid that would pit the tub in an attempt to get a 'bite' onto the old surface. Then the area would be painted with marine grade epoxy primer followed by epoxy paint. The fumes would last a couple of days and most companies required the occupant to vacate for 24 hours! We would fax the form to the front office if the unit was occupied and the office had them sign it and fax it back. It was simply standard operating procedure in those days.

Those days are Gone for Dallas Bathtub Refinishing! I know some professionals still use that old method because the epoxy is cheap. I guess a hundred dollar bill is more important to them? I really don't know exactly why they would not train on the updated technology. The technology I switched over to in 2007 and then was improved in 2012. A third generation was introduced in 2014 and I ordered it the day it was available.
It is no low V.O.C. the fumes dissipate within about (1) hour of completion and even though it has a "nail salon" smell while I am working on the project, it is low v.o.c. and it dissipates very quickly.
The integration of the new into the old means you are getting a surface on the bathtub, tile or shower that is chemically welded to the old surface.
